Empowering Educators to Protect Children: POCSO Workshop Conducted at MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul

 

On 28th July 2023, a significant workshop on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act was conducted at MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul School for teachers and staff members. The workshop aimed to raise awareness among educators about child protection, recognize signs of abuse, and equip them with tools to ensure a safer learning environment for children. The workshop was facilitated by two distinguished experts in child protection: Ms. Kirti Dini, Training and Data Coordinator at Foundation For Child Protection Muskaan and Ms. Anju Sharma, a Certified POSH & POCSO trainer. This event was organized by Agni house team members.

Through engaging presentations and real-life case studies, Ms. Kirti Dini shed light on the various forms of child abuse, emphasizing the need for teachers to be vigilant and proactive in recognizing signs of abuse. Her comprehensive training approach included insights into creating a supportive environment for children, where they feel comfortable to speak up about any issues they may be facing. Ms. Kirti’s session was not only informative but also thought -provoking. The knowledge and insights she shared regarding the subject matter were truly commendable.

Ms. Anju Sharma, a seasoned trainer certified in Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) and POCSO, followed with an in-depth session on the legal framework of the POCSO Act. Ms. Anju Sharma equipped the teachers with a clear understanding of their responsibilities as mandated reporters, empowering them to take the necessary steps to protect children from potential harm. Her expertise and passion for creating awareness about child protection and safety shone through every moment of the presentation.

MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul’s initiative to empower its teachers through this POCSO workshop received widespread appreciation from attendees. As educators all the staff members have a significant responsibility to protect and nurture our students,and this session has undoubtedly equipped all the staff members with the necessary tools and knowledge to fulfill our duty effectively. Towards the end of the workshop teachers filled a feedback form which was a questionnaire based on POSCO laws and on how to keep children safe. The institution’s commitment to creating a safe learning environment and its collaboration with experts like Ms.Kirti Dini and Ms. Anju Sharma underscored its dedication to nurturing not only academic excellence but also the overall well-being of its students.
