MYP 1 Chemistry Field trip

MYP 1 Chemistry Field trip to Mahatma Phule rock museum Shivajinagar Pune.

Students of MYP 1 visited Mahatma Phule Rock Museum, Shivajinagar, Pune on 19th March 2024. Mahatma Phule Museum was founded in 1890 and was then called the Poona Industrial Museum, and subsequently, it was named Lord Reay Museum. In 1968 it was renamed Mahatma Phule Museum. In this field trip, they studied the classification of different types of rocks based on their properties.

Students were very happy while watching colorful rocks. Moving deeper into the museum, they encountered a dazzling array of minerals and gemstones, each a precious gem in the tapestry of our planet’s geology. From the fiery depths of the Earth’s core to the icy embrace of polar glaciers, these jewels offer a glimpse into the kaleidoscope of colors and textures that define our world.

They developed their Communication skill by discussing questions on different types of rocks and Reflection skills through Field trip reflection. The field trip was successful as they saw different soil and rocks live making a connection with ongoing unit Earth science.

The MYP 1 classroom was quite excited about field trips because we rarely have any, so many people brought lots of snacks and were very prepared. The bus ride was long, but I’m sure that each bus made the most of it. Personally, in my bus, we were blasting music to the fullest and singing our hearts out. It was amazing, and when we reached our destination, our voices were super dry and tired. The museum was not only full of rocks, but also many other things like weapons, animal fur, crystals, coral, and more. Surprisingly, all of this was confined in a small room. I found it fascinating how well-preserved the artifacts are, considering many of them are 1000 years old or even older. Everybody was showing each other around and sharing the amazing discoveries they saw. I particularly liked the corals and fossils because each one of them is unique in its own way. The crafts shown were captivating to the eye, as each of them was distinct. Overall, the field trip was an unforgettable experience and a much-needed break from the enclosed classrooms, offering a journey of discovery and learning.
