Nest Man of India

23rd Jan 2023
‘Big things have small beginnings’ is taken from Lawrence of Arabia, the story of T.E. Lawrence and to put this quote into perspective  we were honoured to have among us Mr.Rakesh Khatri , an acclaimed documentary film-maker with over 400 films to his credit turned environmentalist popularly known as the ‘Nest Man of India’.
Mr. Khatri is on a mission to bring back birds to urban areas in India. He has made over 4.75 lac bird nests with students and young professionals teaching them how to make, install and maintain a bird's nest. He aims to create awareness and develop a deeper understanding of ecosystem conservation.
The morning started with the world peace prayer, lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of Mr.Khatri  by our MYP Coordinator Mr. Mandar Gurjar and DP Coordinator, Mr. Aprit Sharma.Mr. Khatri shared with our students his exciting anecdotal stories and journey of being the Nest Man of India. Mr. Khatri shared his thrilling experience with our senior students of MYP and DP.
Mr. Rakesh Khatri during his talk mentioned a very important message, ‘the nature does not need us, but humans need nature to survive’, this was in alignment with the value of the month ‘Service and Generosity’, He emphasized on the importance of giving back to mother nature and being grateful for everything we have.
It was an informative session as Mr. Khatri involved the students in a “Guess the animal” game. He enlightened the students with a lot of unknown facts and information on various birds and their significance. The session was interactive as our students asked a number of questions which Sir responded with patience.
The highlight of the session was the making of the nests by the students. Mr. Khatri had bought the kit consisting of all the required materials to make nests. Students and teachers  were very enthusiastic and enjoyed the activity of making nest as guided by Mr. Khatri. We successfully made seven nests which will be strategically placed on our campus. We will be asking our DP students to make some more nests and ensure to place the same on our campus hoping to provide homes to many birds.
Our DP coordinator Mr. Arpit Sharma proposed the vote of thanks and expressed our gratitude to Sir for gracing the occasion and also thanked our CAS Coordinator Mr Rameez Rehman for collaborating and getting Mr. Khatri to our school. He thanked him for motivating our students, making them realize that they too can make a difference if they want to in themselves. He made everyone believe that nothing is impossible if they work hard with determination and perseverance.
