Guest Lecture on Sustainability: Learning in Collaboration with Parents and Teachers in PYP

Guest Lecture on Sustainability: Learning in Collaboration with Parents and Teachers in PYP As PYP 5 students at Vishwashanti Gurukul World School prepare for their upcoming exhibition, their excitement and dedication to inquiry-based learning continue to grow. Recently, they had the privilege of attending an insightful session on sustainability, led by Sharon Christa Ma’am, a parent of a PYP student. With a graduate degree in computer science and a Ph.D. in artificial intelligence, Sharon Christa Ma’am brings a wealth of knowledge as a professor teaching engineering students. In her session, she introduced key aspects of sustainability, covering sustainable cities, homes, neighborhoods, and healthcare systems. She enriched the discussion with real-life case studies from cities like Abu Dhabi and Copenhagen, illustrating successful models of sustainable urban development. These examples sparked curiosity among the students, leading to an engaging discussion where they eagerly asked questions and explored ways to implement sustainability in their own lives. Inspired by the session, the students brainstormed practical ways to incorporate sustainability into their daily routines. Ideas ranged from using LED lights to conserve energy and reducing plastic consumption to segregating waste for recycling and adopting eco-friendly habits at home and school. The session reinforced the idea that even small, mindful actions can make a significant impact on creating a more sustainable future. This collaborative learning experience, integrating the knowledge and expertise of parents, further enriched the students’ understanding, making their inquiry journey even more meaningful.

Reliability: Our energy systems have evolved alongside fossil fuels, making them highly dependable. Infrastructure: Global infrastructure supports their use, making an energy shift challenging, especially for low-income countries. Affordability: Fossil fuels are far cheaper to produce and consume than most alternatives. High Energy Density: Coal and diesel pack impressive energy levels—24MJ/kg and 46MJ/kg, respectively—with efficient systems to harness nearly all their potential. Availability: Widely accessible and affordable, fossil fuels ensure energy for everyone without disparity. But… the downsides: Fossil fuels occasionally cause environmental “oops” moments. Think of an overpopped popcorn lid! They keep Earth’s “cozy blanket” a little too tight, warming things up uncomfortably. Their love for painting our atmosphere and lungs grey isn’t ideal. They’re like a magician’s rabbit—here now, gone soon. And while versatile, their “makeovers” for Mother Earth aren’t always flattering. – Arnav Kathale National Level Spell Bee We are thrilled to share that Aarya Waikar of MYP 4 has secured a spot in the Top 24 at the prestigious National Spell Bee competition organized by SBI-Radio Mirchi. This remarkable achievement is a testament to Aarya’s exceptional spelling prowess, dedication, and mastery in language arts. The two-day event featured two challenging rounds: an MCQ-based test and a spell-out session conducted by the Spell-master. Attracting participants from diverse regions, the competition not only evaluated vocabulary and spelling accuracy but also tested critical thinking under pressure. Aarya’s success shines as an inspiration to all aspiring learners! Chemistry in Christmas MYP 5 and DP1 students explored the fascinating Chemistry behind every element of Christmas, connecting classroom concepts to real-world traditions. From the science behind Christmas trees, party poppers, and artificial snow to the chemistry of gift wrap and the vibrant red of Santa’s attire, students uncovered how Chemistry adds magic to the holiday season. Their research highlighted the relevance of Chemistry in everyday life, sparking curiosity and a
