GURUKULIANS’ JOURNEY MARCH 2025 READ NOW Annual Sports Day 2025: A Celebration of Sportsmanship and Excellence On March 1, 2025, MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul World IB School hosted its much-anticipated Annual Sports Day, an evening that celebrated athletic excellence, teamwork, and school spirit. Held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the event began with a grand march past by all four houses, followed by the hoisting of the flag by Chief Guest Mr. Viraj, a respected figure in sports. Students across all age groups showcased their talent in sprints, relays, long jump, shot put, and more. A major highlight was the teachers’ and parents’ race, which brought joy and laughter to the crowd. The day concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where Jal House was awarded the Best House Trophy. The Vice Principal praised the students’ sportsmanship and dedication, making the day a proud moment for the entire VGWS community. – Mr. Sivakumar Head of Sports Math Exhibition 2025: Making Numbers Come Alive! This month, the school hosted its much-awaited Annual Math Exhibition, transforming the world of numbers into an engaging and interactive experience for all. The event featured innovative stalls, exciting games, and models that brought mathematical concepts to life. One of the standout presentations came from Keshavi Bhargav (MYP 3) and her peers Sukriti and Amber, who showcased their project titled “Trigonometry for Anyone.” The project broke down the fundamentals of sine, cosine, and tangent, highlighting how these concepts play a vital role in real-life applications, especially in architecture. Their model demonstrated how to calculate the height of a building using distance and angle of elevation—proving just how practical trigonometry can be. To make the learning accessible, the team used interactive flash cards with questions ranging from basic to advanced, ensuring every visitor could participate and enjoy solving problems. Keshavi shared how the experience of engaging with curious peers and teachers helped her grow as a communicator and thinker. Their creative and inclusive approach made trigonometry not only understandable but genuinely exciting! The Math Exhibition wasn’t just about numbers—it was a celebration of curiosity, collaboration, and the power of mathematics in everyday life. – Keshavi Bhargav, MYP 3 Cultural and Religious Awareness Assembly: Embracing Diversity and Celebrating Excellence On March 5th, the morning assembly at MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul was a meaningful celebration that beautifully intertwined cultural and religious awareness with academic recognition. The session began with Ms. Alfiya, who thoughtfully introduced students to the significance of Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting and reflection observed by Muslims around the world. She highlighted the values of spiritual discipline, empathy, and unity that define this important time. Her address was complemented by Rhea and Fariha from MYP 2, who shared their personal insights into Ramadan, focusing on the themes of self-discipline, gratitude, and compassion. Adding depth to the cultural discourse, Ms. Priya shared the meaning behind Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season in Christianity. Her message underscored the importance of humility, introspection, and spiritual renewal during this period. The assembly also recognized academic excellence, as students who performed exceptionally in the English Olympiad were celebrated. A special round of applause was given to Ms. Saumya Sharma from MYP 2, who was awarded a gold medal for her stellar performance. This assembly not only celebrated diversity and academic achievement but also nurtured an environment of respect, awareness, and inclusivity—core values that continue to define our vibrant school community. Engaging Young Minds in Critical Thinking: MYP 4 Debate on Resource Extraction In MYP 4 Chandra class, students took part in a thought-provoking debate on the topic: “The socio-economic benefits of resource extraction outweigh the environmental and social costs.” Focused on the ATL skill of Critical Thinking, students worked in teams FOR and AGAINST, conducting research and organizing information to present structured arguments. The debate included opening and closing speeches along with a rebuttal round, encouraging analytical reasoning and quick thinking. As moderator and timekeeper, I assessed teams on the strength of their arguments, use of evidence, and overall presentation. This activity went beyond classroom learning, strengthening skills transferable across subjects. From interpreting climate policies in science to analyzing economic trade-offs in business studies, students learned to support their viewpoints with data and logic. The debate format also enhanced persuasive communication, fostering confidence and the ability to engage in constructive discourse—an essential step toward real-world problem-solving. Building Essential Life Skills In February, students engaged in Life Skills sessions focusing on moral values, self-management, social skills, and critical thinking. They explored essential values such as honesty, respect, and gratitude, which shape personality and character. Discussions on gender bias, stereotypes, and discrimination fostered awareness of social issues, highlighting the significance of equality and fairness. A special session on problem-solving encouraged students to think critically, while activities on leadership and teamwork emphasized cooperation, adjustment, and a sense of unity. Additionally, a session on self-control helped students distinguish between reaction and response, equipping them with strategies to handle uncontrollable situations with patience. Through informative videos, interactive activities, and discussions, students developed essential skills such as communication, collaboration, active listening, and analytical thinking. These sessions not only contributed to their personal growth but also nurtured their curiosity and understanding of the world beyond themselves. Celebrating Science Day with Enthusiasm and Inquiry Our young scientists embraced Science Day with curiosity and excitement, embodying the IB Learner Profile attributes of Inquirers, Thinkers, and Risk-Takers. They eagerly explored and selected their experiments, engaging in hands-on learning with enthusiasm. Additionally, they showcased their creativity and teamwork in fancy dress planning, demonstrating their growing self-management skills. While they continue their journey toward full competency, these experiences reinforced the importance of perseverance and learning through practice. Despite occasional setbacks, students displayed remarkable resilience, reflecting on their challenges and seeking solutions for improvement. Their ability to analyze difficulties and apply feedback showcased their commitment to growth. Under-19 Volleyball Team Shines at ISSO Nationals
Under-19 Volleyball Team Shines at ISSO Nationals The boys’ Under-19 team from Vishwashanti Gurukul World School recently participated in the ISSO National Volleyball Competition, hosted at our school, VGWS, and proudly clinched the gold medal in their category. The journey for the team began at last year’s ISSO National Games, where they gave it their all but finished in 4th place. While proud of their efforts, the team was determined to come back stronger and aim for the top. Over the past year, they dedicated themselves to rigorous practice sessions, tirelessly improving their skills, strategies, and gameplay. These sessions included focused coaching to enhance passing, setting, and hitting techniques while also building mobility and agility. There were days when the team faced setbacks that felt like insurmountable obstacles: injuries, tough matches, and the challenge of balancing academics with practice. Yet, their determination to achieve success never wavered. The ISSO Volleyball Championship proved to be an incredible and thrilling experience. The team faced tough and resilient opponents, equally determined to succeed. This championship provided invaluable exposure to different playing styles, strategies, and competition levels. The highlight was the spirit of fair play, thanks to the referees and coaches who ensured an equitable contest. Strategically, the team employed 5-1 and 4-2 rotations, interchanging them based on the opponents’ strategies. This allowed for consistent playmaking, a better balance between offence and defence, and less fatigue for the players. Their coach played a vital role, offering real-time feedback on mistakes and gaps, such as leaving large spaces on the court, and providing actionable solutions like improving positioning based on the attacker’s angles. Adding to the event’s success were the CAS stalls set up by our school students, offering various food and drinks, such as nachos, Maggi, and beverages. These stalls provided much-needed refreshments to players throughout the day. The funds raised were donated to charities and NGOs supporting causes like girl child education. While this victory is sweet, it also serves as a stepping stone. Our volleyball team has set a shining example for all students: success stems from dedication and hard work. GURUKUL CHRONICLE SEPTEMBER 2024 READ NOW Academic Initiatives Nukkad Natak: “E-Waste Unplugged” Raises Awareness on Critical Environmental Issues Nukkad Natak, a dynamic and impactful way to address social issues, came alive at our recent performance titled “E-Waste Unplugged.” This thought-provoking play focused on the growing issue of electronic waste (e-waste) and served as both a powerful spectacle and an educational tool. The performance was a CAS experience connecting Physics and Chemistry concepts learned in class, including electrochemistry and electric fields, making the message even more relevant. The narrative vividly portrayed the environmental and health hazards posed by improper e-waste disposal through vignettes like ‘Dhalao,’ ‘Nadi,’ ‘Kheti,’ ‘Jungle,’ and ‘Gaon.’ It also reinforced the importance of the Reuse, Reduce, Recycle mantra. This street play left a lasting impression on the audience, motivating everyone to rethink their relationship with e-waste. By Aashna Rao (IBDP 2) Previous Next Reflection on DAIMUN 2024 The Dhirubhai Ambani International Model United Nations (DAIMUN), held from September 18th to 21st, provided our students with an invaluable opportunity to sharpen their diplomacy and teamwork skills while tackling complex global issues. Adopting the THIMUN format, the event featured stimulating debates on critical topics such as de-dollarization, the African debt crisis, the plight of the Batwa tribes, access to education in Central Africa, and discrimination in the workforce. This diverse range of topics offered delegates a deeper understanding of international economic challenges and social injustices. The collaborative environment fostered meaningful discussions, inspiring students to engage thoughtfully as global citizens. DAIMUN proved to be a transformative experience, enhancing essential skills like public speaking, critical thinking, and research, all of which contributed to an enriching dialogue on international relations and global challenges. Previous Next Vishwashanti Gurukul World School shines at the International Chemistry Quiz (ICQ) We are proud to announce that Master Jayachanthiran Sankar, a student from MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul, achieved distinction in the International Chemistry Quiz (ICQ). His outstanding performance reflects his deep understanding of chemistry and dedication to the subject. Jayachanthiran’s achievement is a testament to his hard work, and it brings great pride to our school. Congratulations to Jayachanthiran for representing MIT Gurukul with such excellence! The ICQ, organized annually by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI), is a prestigious global competition that inspires students to explore the world of chemistry through challenging and engaging questions. This year, several of our students actively participated, showcasing their enthusiasm and knowledge of the subject while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Visit to the National Chemical Laboratory: A Journey into Advanced Science Our recent school trip to the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) was both an enriching and enjoyable experience. From the moment we arrived, the sprawling green campus and pristine surroundings set the tone for a refreshing day of learning. The trip started with presentations on nano pharmacology and biotechnology, where experts explained these complex topics in an engaging manner, making sure to involve us through interactive Q&A sessions. The highlight of the trip was the lab tours. We witnessed the High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) system and the Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) machine in action, learning how these sophisticated instruments are used to analyze chemical compounds. Meeting scientists, including one who had earned three PhDs, was incredibly inspiring, as they patiently explained the real-world applications of the instruments and answered all our questions. Despite the rain delaying our return, the trip was a remarkable insight into the fascinating world of chemical research. By Lincy Mittal (IBDP 2) MYP 5 – Interdisciplinary Unit: Analyzing Protest Literature and Speeches As part of the MYP 5 interdisciplinary unit in Integrated Humanities (IH) and Language & Literature (L&L), students analyzed protest literature and speeches by notable historical figures like Mary Wollstonecraft, Lord Ashley, and William Blake. Through these texts, students explored the themes of justice, rights, and social reform, connecting them to the transformative effects of the Industrial Revolution. This activity deepened their understanding of how social and economic changes inspired collective action. By critically examining these speeches and poems, students learned how literature became a powerful tool for advocating social change. The unit enhanced their thinking skills and encouraged them to reflect on the historical significance of protest literature, demonstrating the influence of language in shaping the rights and reforms of society. The event was a celebration of literature and learning, engaging students across all programs—PYP, MYP, and DP. Students explored a diverse collection of books, ranging from fiction and non-fiction to educational and self-help genres, encouraging the development of personal libraries and a love for reading. Attractive discounts from the publishers added to the enthusiasm of the event. One of the most impactful moments was when DP students shared their reading experiences with younger students, engaging them through storytelling and discussions. This interaction inspired the juniors to cultivate a passion for reading, fostering a culture of curiosity and intellectual growth. The Book Fair was a resounding success, reinforcing the school’s mission to promote holistic education and nurture a lifelong love of learning among students. Previous Next Events and Celebrations Grade MYP5: IDL – The Role of Media in Shaping Protest Narratives In recent times, discussions around protests and the media’s influence have become more prominent. To help students understand this dynamic, MYP5 Integrated Humanities (IH) and Language & Literature (L&L) classes participated in a source analysis activity. Through this interdisciplinary learning experience, students critically examined how print media shapes public perception during protests. Working in groups, students analyzed news articles to assess media bias, tone, and portrayal of protesters. By exploring key questions such as the core message of the article, the perspectives it favored, and any biases present, students gained a more nuanced understanding of how media influences societal views on protests. GURUKUL CHRONICLE AUGUST 2024 READ NOW Academic Initiatives Investiture Ceremony – A New Chapter of Leadership On the 10th of August, Vishavashanthi Gurukul World School witnessed an event that marked a new beginning—a day where leadership, responsibility, and unity took centre stage. The Investiture Ceremony for the academic year 2024-2025 was a momentous occasion, celebrating the election of our new student leaders and prefects. The event was not just a formal affair, but one filled with pride, purpose, and harmonious music that resonated throughout the school. As our young leaders, a mix of experienced individuals and new faces eager to make their mark, marched confidently towards the stage, each step symbolized a promise—a promise to serve, lead, and inspire. The presentation of badges was a significant moment, marking the transition from students to leaders, each now carrying the responsibility of guiding their peers and contributing positively to the school community. CPR Workshop at Vishwashanti Gurukul World School On the 8th and 9th of August, our IBDP1 and IBDP2 students, who are part of one of the best IB schools in Pune for 11th and 12th, participated in a transformative Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) workshop that aligns seamlessly with their CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) initiatives. By fostering essential values such as empathy, responsibility, and proactivity, we are nurturing a generation of individuals ready to make a difference—one heartbeat at a time. In collaboration with Vishwaraj Hospital, this comprehensive CPR training was led by the esteemed Dr. Vitthal Shendage, an American Heart Association-certified instructor and distinguished anaesthesiologist. Dr. Shendage, with his qualifications including MBBS, DNB, and DA, provided our students with top-tier training in this critical life-saving procedure. This training session was more than just a theoretical lecture; it was an engaging, interactive experience that allowed students to practice CPR techniques and gain confidence in applying these methods in real-life scenarios. Celebrating the Spirit of Freedom: The 78th Independence Day of India On the 78th Independence Day of India, our students at Vishwashanti Gurukul World School showcased a truly mesmerizing dance performance that beautifully embodied the essence of our nation’s rich heritage and the spirit of independence. Every move, every expression was a tribute to the sacrifices made and the freedom cherished by 1.4 billion Indians. As we share these breathtaking pictures, we are reminded of the power of art to unite, inspire, and reflect the journey of our nation. What began as a familiar childhood game quickly evolved into a profound exercise in understanding. For example, when exploring why we write condensed electron configurations, we delved into concepts of noble gas stability and atomic structures, eventually hitting a challenging point where answers were less clear. This activity not only tested our knowledge but also illuminated the interconnectedness of various scientific concepts. Observing other groups tackle different topics, such as the properties of copper sulfate or the behavior of ligands, underscored how Chemistry often overlaps with other fields like biology and physics. It offered a valuable perspective on how knowledge can be systematically broken down and expanded, revealing the intricate workings of the world through scientific inquiry. Constructing DNA: A Creative Class Activity with Waste Materials In a unique class activity, MYP 5 students engaged in constructing DNA models using waste materials, blending creativity with learning. This hands-on project not only enhanced their understanding of DNA’s molecular structure but also underscored the importance of sustainability by repurposing everyday items. Additionally, students presented the history and significance of DNA’s discovery, exploring key milestones from the pioneering work of James Watson, Francis Crick, and Rosalind Franklin to contemporary advances in genetics. This presentation provided insight into the groundbreaking story of DNA research and its impact on our understanding of heredity and genetic information. Exploring Microscopy: MYP 1 Students Delve into Plant and Animal Cells MYP 1 students had an exciting hands-on experience in the biology lab, diving into the world of microscopy. This interactive session introduced them to the intricate structures of plant and animal cells. Using prepared slides, students observed plant root cells and animal blood cells, gaining a firsthand understanding of cellular components. They also practiced identifying and drawing different parts of the microscope in their science notebooks, enriching their learning through both observation and creativity. Flipping the Classroom: MYP 4 Students Present Topics on Cell Biology MYP 4 students took charge of their learning through a flipped classroom activity, presenting topics related to cell biology from Unit 1. This method shifted the learning process, encouraging students to become educators and enhance their grasp of complex biological concepts. After researching and preparing their presentations at home, they confidently shared their insights with peers. This approach fostered deeper understanding, accountability, and excitement as students embraced both independent learning and the opportunity to teach their classmates. Events and Celebrations Dahi Handi Celebration: A Festive Showcase of Unity and Tradition Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami, celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. The festival is marked by rituals such as fasting, midnight prayers, and vibrant cultural performances. In Maharashtra, the Dahi Handi event stands out as a major highlight, where teams form human pyramids to break a pot of curd, symbolizing Krishna’s playful childhood act of butter theft. At our campus, the Janmashtami celebrations included a lively hostel-wise Dahi Handi competition that energized the community. Each hostel fielded 1-2 teams, with music, dancing, and festive snacks adding to the excitement. Teams constructed human pyramids to reach the high-hanging pot of curd, with judges timing each attempt. The competition showcased remarkable teamwork, balance, and coordination as students, supported by

Each student played a crucial role in delivering a persuasive exposition on the relevance of these goals and the individual’s role in achieving them. Their confident oratory and ability to articulate complex concepts with clarity left a lasting impression on the audience. The students’ dedication to the goals and their advocacy for a sustainable future is a testament to their dedication and commitment to the planet. Guest Session with Ms. Gayatri Chadwa The Guest Session with Ms. Gayatri Chadwa was a comprehensive learning experience for students, focusing on vital organs, bus stop activities, and spell bees. The session was enriched by the support of the parent community and the collaborative learning environment. Students eagerly participated in bus stop activities, learning about nouns and earning points for their teams. The weekly spell bee was conducted to enhance vocabulary and encourage the practical use of new words in everyday communication. The collective nouns assessment was also conducted to demonstrate students’ understanding of the concept. The session was a valuable learning experience for students, showcasing their progress in mastering the area of grammar. MYP 2 Mathematics: Fostering International Mindedness through Numbers MYP 2 Mathematics students participated in a Grouped Chart Paper Activity on July 19, 2024, focusing on international mindedness and number systems. The activity, which included comparing numerical representations across different cultures and converting numbers into native languages, aimed to cultivate students’ understanding of the historical evolution of number systems and their contributions to scientific and technical innovation. The exercise also highlighted the practical application of these systems in daily life and trade. The success of the activity enriched students’ communication skills, critical thinking, and appreciation for global mathematical heritage, fostering a heightened sense of international-mindedness and intercultural awareness. The MYP 2 Mathematics class successfully emphasized the importance of understanding and embracing diverse number systems. MYP Anti-Bullying Session: Promoting a Safe and Supportive Environment MYP students are facing a significant issue of bullying, with various forms of bullying being addressed by school counselors. These behaviors can lead to anxiety, depression, and decreased academic performance, highlighting the need for effective prevention and intervention. Bullying is a significant issue in schools, and students are taking a stand against it. To demonstrate their commitment, each student left a handprint on a poster, symbolizing their pledge to create a supportive environment for all, fostering a community where every student can thrive. Goal Setting: Empowering MYP 1-5 Students for Success MYP students participated in a crucial anti-bullying session led by school counselors. The session addressed various forms of bullying, including physical, verbal, and cyberbullying, and their detrimental effects on mental health. Students were encouraged to take a stand against bullying and pledged to contribute to a safe and supportive environment. ManageBac Training Session for MYP 5 Students A comprehensive training session was held on July 9th for MYP 5 students on the use of ManageBac, an essential platform for managing the IB Middle Years Programme. The session introduced students to its diverse features, including service as action, personal projects, resource management, and collaboration tools. The training provided practical skills and knowledge to navigate the platform confidently, ensuring MYP 5 students are well-prepared to manage their academic and extracurricular responsibilities within the IB framework. Events and Celebrations EY3 Students Celebrate International Tiger Day with Enthusiasm The EY3 children participated in an educational celebration of International Tiger Day, focusing on tiger conservation and fostering a love for wildlife among young learners. The day began with a captivating video about tigers and a compelling story about efforts to save them. The children then created their own tiger puppets, demonstrating the importance of protecting these majestic creatures and developing a deeper respect for wildlife. The event was a success, leaving a lasting impression on the young conservationists. Guru Purnima Celebration: Honoring Teachers at IBDP and MYP Guru Purnima, a traditional Indian festival, was celebrated by IBDP students and MYP students. On On July 22, 2024, students crafted handmade bookmarks and greeting cards for school staff, expressing their deep respect and gratitude for their invaluable contributions. The MYP students also participated in a card-making activity to celebrate the day. The activity aimed to foster creativity, cultural awareness, and appreciation for teachers, while also recognizing the tireless dedication of their educators. The students created unique cards filled with heartfelt messages, quotes, and drawings, expressing their gratitude and the positive impact of their teachers’ guidance. The activity left a lasting impression on the students and strengthened the bond between students and their teachers. PYP 4 Activities: Embracing Responsibility and Creativity PYP 4 students embraced responsibility and creativity by taking ownership of their learning environment and organizing their stationery. This exercise emphasized duty and responsibility, fostering a sense of accountability. They explored the IB Learner Profile, defining core values and attributes, and created their Essential Agreement, reflecting their commitment to a positive classroom community. Drawing inspiration from cartoon and story characters, students identified admirable traits and learned valuable lessons from their favorite characters. This collaborative effort aimed to foster a positive and respectful classroom community. The proceedings kicked off with an adorable Ant March by Early Years Programme (EYP) students, showcasing their enthusiasm and spirit. The audience was treated to impressive displays, including archery and yoga exhibitions, a drill by Primary Years Programme (PYP) students, and a lively Zumba performance by Middle Years Programme (MYP) students. The competitive spirit soared as the races commenced, featuring obstacle races for PYP, and sprints and relays for both MYP and Diploma Programme (DP) students. The atmosphere buzzed with enthusiasm as each house gave their all, aiming for victory. In a thrilling culmination, Jal house emerged triumphant, securing the first position, with Vayu claiming second place, Agni securing third, and Prithvi securing the fourth position. ISSO CHAMPIONSHIP 2023 In a remarkable display of talent and determination, our school students have brought great glory to our institution at the prestigious International School Sports Organization (ISSO) athletics competition. Our young athletes have showcased their prowess and brought home an impressive haul of medals. With unwavering dedication and relentless efforts, our students clinched a total of 13 medals, including 2 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze.Apart from their outstanding performance at the ISSO athletics competition, our students have also actively participated in various basketball, Volleyball, and badminton tournaments.
