Annual Sports Day 2025: A Celebration of Sportsmanship and Excellence

On March 1, 2025, MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul World IB School hosted its much-anticipated Annual Sports Day, an evening that celebrated athletic excellence, teamwork, and school spirit. Held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the event began with a grand march past by all four houses, followed by the hoisting of the flag by Chief Guest Mr. Viraj, a respected figure in sports.

Students across all age groups showcased their talent in sprints, relays, long jump, shot put, and more. A major highlight was the teachers’ and parents’ race, which brought joy and laughter to the crowd.

The day concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where Jal House was awarded the Best House Trophy. The Vice Principal praised the students’ sportsmanship and dedication, making the day a proud moment for the entire VGWS community. – Mr. Sivakumar Head of Sports 

Math Exhibition 2025: Making Numbers Come Alive!

This month, the school hosted its much-awaited Annual Math Exhibition, transforming the world of numbers into an engaging and interactive experience for all. The event featured innovative stalls, exciting games, and models that brought mathematical concepts to life.

One of the standout presentations came from Keshavi Bhargav (MYP 3) and her peers Sukriti and Amber, who showcased their project titled “Trigonometry for Anyone.” The project broke down the fundamentals of sine, cosine, and tangent, highlighting how these concepts play a vital role in real-life applications, especially in architecture. Their model demonstrated how to calculate the height of a building using distance and angle of elevation—proving just how practical trigonometry can be.

To make the learning accessible, the team used interactive flash cards with questions ranging from basic to advanced, ensuring every visitor could participate and enjoy solving problems.

Keshavi shared how the experience of engaging with curious peers and teachers helped her grow as a communicator and thinker. Their creative and inclusive approach made trigonometry not only understandable but genuinely exciting!

Cultural and Religious Awareness Assembly: Embracing Diversity and Celebrating Excellence

On March 5th, the morning assembly at MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul was a meaningful celebration that beautifully intertwined cultural and religious awareness with academic recognition.

The session began with Ms. Alfiya, who thoughtfully introduced students to the significance of Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting and reflection observed by Muslims around the world. She highlighted the values of spiritual discipline, empathy, and unity that define this important time. Her address was complemented by Rhea and Fariha from MYP 2, who shared their personal insights into Ramadan, focusing on the themes of self-discipline, gratitude, and compassion.

Adding depth to the cultural discourse, Ms. Priya shared the meaning behind Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season in Christianity. Her message underscored the importance of humility, introspection, and spiritual renewal during this period.

The assembly also recognized academic excellence, as students who performed exceptionally in the English Olympiad were celebrated. A special round of applause was given to Ms. Saumya Sharma from MYP 2, who was awarded a gold medal for her stellar performance.

This assembly not only celebrated diversity and academic achievement but also nurtured an environment of respect, awareness, and inclusivity—core values that continue to define our vibrant school community. 

Engaging Young Minds in Critical Thinking: MYP 4 Debate on Resource Extraction

In MYP 4 Chandra class, students took part in a thought-provoking debate on the topic: “The socio-economic benefits of resource extraction outweigh the environmental and social costs.” Focused on the ATL skill of Critical Thinking, students worked in teams FOR and AGAINST, conducting research and organizing information to present structured arguments. The debate included opening and closing speeches along with a rebuttal round, encouraging analytical reasoning and quick thinking. As moderator and timekeeper, I assessed teams on the strength of their arguments, use of evidence, and overall presentation.

This activity went beyond classroom learning, strengthening skills transferable across subjects. From interpreting climate policies in science to analyzing economic trade-offs in business studies, students learned to support their viewpoints with data and logic. The debate format also enhanced persuasive communication, fostering confidence and the ability to engage in constructive discourse—an essential step toward real-world problem-solving.

Building Essential Life Skills

In February, students engaged in Life Skills sessions focusing on moral values, self-management, social skills, and critical thinking. They explored essential values such as honesty, respect, and gratitude, which shape personality and character. Discussions on gender bias, stereotypes, and discrimination fostered awareness of social issues, highlighting the significance of equality and fairness. A special session on problem-solving encouraged students to think critically, while activities on leadership and teamwork emphasized cooperation, adjustment, and a sense of unity.

Additionally, a session on self-control helped students distinguish between reaction and response, equipping them with strategies to handle uncontrollable situations with patience. Through informative videos, interactive activities, and discussions, students developed essential skills such as communication, collaboration, active listening, and analytical thinking. These sessions not only contributed to their personal growth but also nurtured their curiosity and understanding of the world beyond themselves.

Celebrating Science Day with Enthusiasm and Inquiry

Our young scientists embraced Science Day with curiosity and excitement, embodying the IB Learner Profile attributes of Inquirers, Thinkers, and Risk-Takers. They eagerly explored and selected their experiments, engaging in hands-on learning with enthusiasm. Additionally, they showcased their creativity and teamwork in fancy dress planning, demonstrating their growing self-management skills. While they continue their journey toward full competency, these experiences reinforced the importance of perseverance and learning through practice.

Despite occasional setbacks, students displayed remarkable resilience, reflecting on their challenges and seeking solutions for improvement. Their ability to analyze difficulties and apply feedback showcased their commitment to growth. A special appreciation goes to our supportive parents, whose guidance and encouragement played a vital role in boosting the children’s confidence and enthusiasm. Their collaboration made the event even more meaningful, fostering a love for science and discovery among our learners.

Creative Expressions and Language Exploration

As part of our unit project-based assessment, students put thoughtful consideration into selecting impactful slogans for their banner-making activity. With creativity and enthusiasm, they designed vibrant banners to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a green Earth. This activity allowed them to express their environmental consciousness through art and messaging, reinforcing the significance of sustainability.

Additionally, students explored a variety of idioms and their meanings, making language learning an exciting experience. They enthusiastically incorporated these expressions into their daily conversations, further enhancing their vocabulary. To encourage the use of idioms across the PYP block, students selected a few significant ones and displayed them on chart paper. This initiative not only enriched their language skills but also fostered a deeper understanding of expressions in a fun and engaging manner.

Unleashing Innovation: A Spectacular Science Exhibition

The corridors of our school buzzed with excitement as young scientists showcased their creativity and curiosity at this year’s Science Exhibition. With great enthusiasm, students presented innovative models and experiments, demonstrating their deep understanding of scientific concepts and real-world applications. From Hydraulic Lifts to Rainwater Harvesting Systems, Water Purification Processes, and Power-Saving Windmills, the exhibition highlighted sustainability and technological advancements. Models like the Water Rocket, Dam Working Model, and Geothermal Energy Demonstration amazed visitors, while Advanced Robotics and a Volcanic Eruption Model brought science to life in a dramatic way.

Each display reflected the hard work, research, and innovation of our students. They confidently explained their projects to visitors and judges, eagerly answering questions and receiving valuable feedback. The exhibition was a testament to their dedication, encouraging a deeper appreciation for science, technology, and the spirit of inquiry.

The World Scholar's Cup

With exams just behind them, students quickly shifted their focus to the World Scholar’s Cup Regional Round in Mumbai. Their goal was to challenge themselves, apply their knowledge, and win as many medals as possible. Confidence was high, but as they arrived, nerves set in. The opening ceremony immersed them in the WSC’s unique atmosphere, where alpacas symbolize camaraderie and learning. The competition tested their knowledge, critical thinking, and teamwork, and despite initial doubts, they embraced the challenge.

The experience strengthened their bonds and belief in themselves. Though some lost their cherished alpaca plushies, the joy of winning 24 medals and a trophy overshadowed any setbacks. Special thanks to Kanchan Ma’am for her support. Securing 6th place and qualifying for the Global Round, the team looks forward to the next stage, excited for new challenges and greater achievements!

Silver Zone English Olympiad

In a proud achievement for our middle school, 15 students participated in the prestigious Silver Zone English Olympiad, demonstrating their dedication to language learning. Their hard work paid off, with 13 students securing medals, reflecting their exceptional linguistic and critical thinking skills.

All participants received certificates of recognition, honoring their commitment to academic excellence. The school assembly celebrated their success, where the medallists were felicitated for their outstanding performance. This accomplishment highlights the determination and talent of our students, inspiring them to aim for even greater achievements in the future!

MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul Library: A Hub of Knowledge and Innovation

The MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul Library serves as a comprehensive resource center designed to support the academic needs of IBDP students. With an extensive collection of books, digital archives, research databases, and AI-powered assistance, it fosters intellectual growth and academic excellence. The library also offers access to JSTOR, Think IB, and Turnitin, ensuring original research and ethical practices.

Further enhancing student learning, the library has introduced automated catalog systems, citation tools, and a digital repository for student work. The newly developed e-book portal provides multilingual resources, while an automated time management system monitors productive study sessions. As a dynamic learning space, the library empowers students with knowledge, research tools, and technological advancements, making it an invaluable part of their academic journey.

GrowBotics: Our Journey to IISER's National Level Science Exhibition

I, Kavish Bansal, along with Keshavi, had the incredible opportunity to participate in IISER’s National Level Science Exhibition with our project, GrowBotics: An AI-Monitored Hydroponic Farm. Initially, we never expected to be selected, but after months of dedication and perseverance, we made it! Competing against projects from all over India, securing a spot was an achievement in itself.

On 28th February, we proudly exhibited our project at IISER Pune, where we interacted with experts from diverse fields, including Tech, AI, Software Engineering, and Agriculture. Engaging with our target audience and receiving insightful feedback was a game-changer. A highlight of the event was presenting our project to Arvind Gupta, the Toy Man of India! The experience was not just about showcasing innovation but also about learning, networking, and growing. It was truly a fulfilling journey that reinforced our passion for science and technology.

Exploring Electrolysis: MYP 4 Science Experiment

MYP 4 students recently conducted an electrolysis experiment to investigate how water can be split into hydrogen and oxygen gases using an electric current. By setting up a simple circuit with electrodes submerged in water, they observed gas formation at both electrodes and analyzed the chemical process in action.

To further their understanding, students experimented with different voltages and electrolyte concentrations to examine their impact on the rate of electrolysis. This hands-on approach allowed them to explore key scientific concepts related to chemical reactions, energy transfer, and electrolysis principles. Through this engaging experiment, students gained valuable insights into the real-world applications of electrolysis in energy production and industrial processes.

Student Appreciation: Khloee Sarmalkar’s Generous Contribution

Khloee Sarmalkar of MYP 1 was honored with an appreciation certificate in today’s assembly by Mr. Rajendra Singh (Librarian) and received it from Ms. Priya D’Souza (MYP 1-3 Coordinator). Her generous donation of books to the school library showcases her dedication to learning and knowledge-sharing.

Parents’ Role in Emotional Well-being of Students

On February 8, 2025, we conducted an insightful session on ‘Parents’ Role in the Emotional Well-being of Students,’ highlighting the crucial collaboration between school and parents in fostering students’ mental well-being. The session detailed various initiatives undertaken by the school to support emotional wellness, which were met with positive feedback from parents.

Parents appreciated the practical strategies shared, recognizing their importance in helping children navigate emotions in a healthy way. The discussion further emphasized how school programs and parental involvement work hand in hand to ensure a child’s overall well-being. It was a valuable session that strengthened the school-parent partnership in nurturing emotionally resilient students.

ATL Integration in the Classroom – Communication Skills

The IH Department recently conducted a “Just Draw It” activity, highlighting the importance of effective communication in daily life. This interactive session encouraged students to exchange information clearly while emphasizing the role of active listening and precise expression.

Through this engaging exercise, students gained a deeper understanding of how clear articulation and attentive listening contribute to meaningful interactions. Activities like these help reinforce communication as a key ATL skill, preparing students for real-world collaboration.
