DP Students Lead the Way in Celebrating International White Cane Day by

We decided to support the Indian Association for the Blind (IAB), a respected organization working tirelessly to empower visually challenged individuals across India. We requested a humble contribution of ₹10 from members of our school community—and were overwhelmed by the positive response. Together, we raised ₹6,000, which was donated to IAB to help them continue their impactful work.

As part of our CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) journey, we as a student group from the Diploma Programme at MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul had the opportunity to be part of a deeply meaningful initiative. We came together to organize a campaign that raised awareness and showed support for International White Cane Day—a day that honors the strength, achievements, and independence of individuals who are visually impaired.

This initiative was driven by a sense of purpose and empathy. With encouragement from our CAS mentors, we took the lead in launching an awareness drive across the school. Our goal was not only to inform but also to inspire action. We reached out to our peers, teachers, and staff, encouraging everyone to contribute to the cause through a small voluntary donation.

However, this effort was about more than just raising funds. It gave us an opportunity to initiate important conversations around accessibility, inclusion, and empathy. We realized how small gestures, when multiplied by many, can create a big impact. It was a reminder that every voice and action counts in building a more compassionate world.

This experience truly captured the essence of CAS. It allowed us to step beyond our classrooms, engage with real-world issues, and grow not only as students but as global citizens. It showed us that leadership comes in many forms, and that young people have the power to lead meaningful change.

We are grateful for the support of our school community and proud of what we were able to accomplish together. Supporting International White Cane Day was an experience that taught us the value of service, the importance of empathy, and the joy of making a difference.
