A Slice of Fun and Creativity
October was an exciting month for PYP 3 students, starting with a delightful culinary experience where they baked their own pizzas. From rolling dough to spreading sauce and layering toppings, students embraced the joy of creating their meals. This hands-on activity combined fun with learning, encouraging teamwork and creativity. The best reward was savoring their delicious creations together, a flavorful memory they will cherish for a long time.
Adding to the excitement, students painted vibrant earthen lamps, or diyas, in preparation for the festive season. Each diya was uniquely designed, reflecting the child’s imagination and creativity. This activity taught students about the cultural significance of diyas as symbols of light and positivity while giving them an opportunity to express themselves artistically. The finished diyas were not only beautiful but also a proud representation of their hard work and enthusiasm.
Celebrating Culture and Togetherness
Festivities continued as students enjoyed a day filled with engaging games that brought out their competitive and strategic sides. From laughter-filled challenges to moments of teamwork, the activities offered a joyful break from routine. Later, students gathered for a cozy movie session complete with popcorn, creating a relaxed and fun atmosphere where they bonded with friends and enjoyed a well-deserved downtime.
This sense of togetherness carried over into the festive season, where the diya-painting activity became a celebration of culture and creativity. Through these shared experiences, students strengthened their friendships while gaining a deeper appreciation for traditions. October proved to be a month where joy and learning came together in the most memorable way.
A Day at the Pet Farm
One of the month’s highlights was a thrilling field trip to the Pet Farm in Wagholi. Students had the unique opportunity to interact with animals, feeding and petting them in a nurturing environment. For many, the chance to ride a horse was the most exciting part, building their confidence and connection with nature. The experience fostered empathy and care, helping students overcome any initial hesitation around animals.
Beyond the joy of the interaction, the trip was filled with moments of laughter and discovery. Surrounded by the cheerful energy of their classmates, students learned about animal behavior and farm life. This enriching outing not only deepened their understanding of nature but also left them with fond memories of a day spent in harmony with animals and friends.
Field Trip to the Tribal Museum
As part of their inquiry into “Children Around the World” and the exploration of diverse cultures, PYP 2 learners embarked on an enlightening field trip to the Tribal Cultural Museum in Pune. Dedicated to preserving the heritage of Maharashtra’s tribal communities, the museum offered students a glimpse into the fascinating world of tribal art, traditional clothing, and everyday tools. The handmade weapons and farming implements particularly captured the learners’ curiosity, showcasing the ingenuity of tribal lifestyles.
The museum also highlighted tribal rituals, dances, and festivals through vibrant displays of costumes and artifacts. This immersive experience enhanced students’ appreciation of cultural diversity and deepened their understanding of how unique traditions enrich our global community. Upon returning, students reflected on their learnings by documenting their thoughts, ensuring this enriching encounter remains a source of inspiration and understanding in their educational journey.
Child Rights and Responsibilities
The learners of PYP 2 took center stage with an inspiring assembly on child rights and responsibilities, leaving the audience impressed by their confidence and passion. Through role plays, banners, and placards, they creatively demonstrated that every right comes with a corresponding responsibility. Their self-management skills and open-mindedness were evident as each student played their part seamlessly, showcasing the essence of teamwork and dedication.
The assembly was an extension of their classroom action, emphasizing the significance of understanding and respecting rights while fulfilling responsibilities. The learners’ efforts were met with much appreciation, reinforcing their motivation for future learning experiences. It was a moment of empowerment, allowing students to advocate for important values while enhancing their communication and presentation skills.
Guest Session on Diversity
On October 18th, the PYP 2 learners participated in an engaging guest speaker session as part of their unit “Children Around the World.” Three facilitators from Vishwashanti Gurukul—Ms. Dhanashree Patil, Ms. I. Sangita, and Ms. Anvesha Ray—shared insights into Maharashtrian, Gujarati, and Bengali cultures, respectively. This interactive session allowed learners to dive deeper into these distinct traditions, gaining a richer perspective on lifestyle and cultural practices.
After the session, students reflected on their learnings by choosing one of the cultures and comparing it to their own. This activity not only enhanced their understanding of cultural diversity but also encouraged critical thinking and self-expression. Such initiatives continue to broaden their worldview, fostering respect and appreciation for differences.
