Lagori
|
Also called as ‘Pitthu' in North India, this is a common boy's game in state of India. The game was played between teams like Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, White & Grey. Each team was of seven mates & the thrill arises when the pile- up of flat stones is broken by throwing a ball & the pile –up is arranged without getting hit by the ball by the opponent team . The Boarders were anxious & were surprised to know about this fast & one of the Traditional games of India . Blending the East & West of the World, Gurukulians are moulded to be universal .They took immense pleasure from this activity. Catching up the heat of the game they played like they were playing this game for a long. This , we believe ,the Boarders are capable of and are an exception.

Tug- of – War |

Thinking of making the Gurukulians allrounders, We at Bharadwaja Hostel left no stone unturned, in every aspect whether it may be games or study.
As a weekend activity, this game was organized to assess the strength and bonding between the Boarders as a team.
The game was played by forming teams and the fun and vigor arouse when the team work was seen. A thick rope has to be pulled from either side by either two people or two teams.
The number of people can vary, one or two or more on either side. The team which pulls the other team shows it's might and power alongwith the team work and spirit. Thus the Boarding team is always ahead to make a wholesome career of a Boarder.

The traditional game - Kabbadi
|
The traditional game of Kabbadi was introduced to the Boarders of Bharadwaja Hostel. As, all of the Boarders are from cosmopolitan background, they were hardly aware of this game or they had never given a try for it. Introducing such cosmopolitan Boarders to traditional, National & International games is an attribute of GURUKUL.
The Rules of the game were introduced in a small game on the 1 st .floor of the Hostel. Then the actual game was played between four teams : Red, Blue, Green & Yellow. All the fun came with the strong fellows like Jaspreet Khanduja & like. As for them it was easy to tackle and catch any of them handy. Rushikesh Karad was one of the best players while chinmay gawand also added flavour to the fun. Shashi Bhushan was tricky as the game continued.
The Matches were arranged outside & next to the Hostel in the late evening and all the Boarders enjoyed the newly introduced, old game to the Hilt.

Outing & Dinner at Chokhi Dhani : |
28 th .Feb'09 was the Exit weekend, yet some of the children stayed back in the boarding .
A trip and dinner was organized for all the hostels by Bharadwaja Hostel and the initiative was taken by Mr. Dinesh Agarwal and the idea was backed by Tripathi Sir. All the Boarders from Sr. Boys hostel, Girls hostel & Jr. boys hostel went together by the school buses to Chokhi Dhani, which is described as a place of Rajasthani Village Culture.
Aptly described, the entrance is a replica of a fortress which leads to a hall where a traditional office is arranged with people handling everything in traditional clothes and culture. Beautiful Rajasthani wall paintings and interior reflects the tradition. Beyond this starts the journey that could last for hours . A person offers a kacchi ghodi dance on the beats of a dhol ( drums) for a charge. Then the snacks counters offers snacks without a penny and you are free to move around till you are tired. A munim is on the field to sell the coupans against cash so that you can enjoy the payable stalls. A small giant wheel was awaiting for the enthusiastic students with their House Parent to take a ride which was manually operated. while a replica of a well was there and stalls those were selling Bangles, mojaris, bags, etc and ice-cream, kulfi, cane juice, barf ka gola as well. There were tree houses around wherein one tree house Traditional Bhakri, chutney ,village cream( makhan) was served. Traditional Rajasthani Dances , top of rope thrills, body massage , mehndi, tattoo, magic show were the points of attraction.
The dinner was awesome, combination of spicy and sweet Rajasthani cuisine which was served in natural( made of dried leaves) disposable dishes and bowls. The arrangement was done such that one has to sit down and put his plate on a small table for each ( called as ‘Chowrang' ) .The food was really fine and it was a exceptionally ‘paisa vasool' for the boarders.
Four Hours in ‘Chokhi Dhani' and yet the time seemed to be insufficient and a desire was left back to visit again.
The presence of Boarding Head Mr. Tripathi & Family in Chokhi Dhani was also a warm surprise for the Boarders & the staff. |

Weekend Outing : Diamond Water Park |
On 31 st .Jan '09 Bharadwaja Boy's Hostel organized a outing for 7 th . & 8 th . graders .The venue was Diamond Water Park near Pune Airport . Except for a few boys who were supposed to play a soccer match , got ready with their costumes in their bags.
At Nine ‘O clock 37 students and four Boarding staff members left Gurukul in two buses towards the water park. The boys started off with the pool with the water slides and they also played a sort of water soccer with hand which was a great fun. The excitement was still to be unveiled when the boys enjoyed the fun in Multilane steep and zigzag water slides.
Later, lunch was served in the hilltop restaurant which was tasty, mouthwatering spicy vegetarian food. Without resting the students went back for all the fun randomly in all the spots till 3.30PM when another excitement was waiting for the students and it was the ‘CYCLONE' where the students had to slide through a tube slide and then they pass onto a circular structure where they rotate vigourously in water and then fell in a water pool – all adventurous & funny. The last one was the wave pool where all of ‘em had the thrill of being in the sea.
The students also enjoyed the food from the tuck shop at the venue where they mostly relished on sugar cotton candy, kurkure, lays etc.
Overall, a nice day out for the MYP boys and they returned with a huge smile to stay for till the next weekend outing.
A special thanks to Tripathi sir (Boarding head) and others for arranging such a nice trip which made the weekend with great fun. |

NIGHT ASSEMBLY Night assembly has got a peculiar significance in the hostel as this is a platform where planning for activities, important announcements, forthcoming issues are discussed.
Another important thing is the head count which is checked regularly by the house parents and any doubts of the students are made clear they have to be present in the night assembly in their night dress and punctuality is of prime importance.
In brief, night assembly makes the student aware of their next days programme, be it in the hostel or in the school or it may be about the excursions also a sense of discipline is imbibed in the students
Care is taken to see that the overall development of the child is made through several activities. Sometimes speeches are conducted so that children can become bold enough to give any speeches or talk in front of audience. A nice speech on Hostel Life, which was given by Tejas Pawar, is depicted here.
The speech titled Hostel Life delivered by Tejas Pawar follows:
 |
Good evening everybody! I am going to speak about hostel life today.
Hostel life is very good for being independent. It helps us to build our character and future. Some students hate to live in the hostel because they think that it will make them away from their parents or some think that they will be even bullied by some boys. But it not like that, the more they will be in the hostel, the more they will be independent in the future. Hostel Life has many rules, we have to get up on time, do yoga, set up your uniform and many more. Hostel House Parents take very much care of us. Hostel life make us live in an very systematic and discipline way. Hostel students get many activities to do like chart making, drawing, dramas, handwriting competition, rangoli competition, Quiz competition and room inspection. There are many festivals and functions which hostel celebrates. We celebrated Diwali festival, Ganesh festival and Children's Day. There are even Social and Cultural Activities for students in the hostel on weekends. Art of Living and many more programme makes newcomers less homesick. |
I think that Hostel is the Second Home for the children to become independent. Thank You. |

Trip To Nature Trails Forest Lodge, Durshet from 11 th Sep To 14 th Sep 2008

'Come September' – it's a movie title but apt for Gurukul students as they were eagerly awaiting for the first exit in this month and most of the students were back to their cozy nests with their parents while only seven were left behind, who went for an adventure trip to a scenic place – ‘Durshet', off Mumbai expressway.
Mr. Dinesh Agarwal led the students to the place by the school vehicle. The trip was for 4 days & 3 nights.
Three hours of journey and they landed onto the scenic beauty of Durshet on 11th of September 2008, where they had planned for adventure that was an envy for rest of the Gurukulians. It was raining and the boys enjoyed the rain.
Seven of them enjoyed Rappling, Kayaking, Rafting, Valley crossing, Trekking, Rifle shooting and General cooking in this short tour.
All the boys cooked Pav Bhaji which was yummy, delicious. A feeling of self reliance and team work also reflected from this activity. They returned on 14 th September to Gurukul.
Get a glimpse of the photographs. This short tour freshened up the minds of the students as well as boosted their confidence by adventure sports.
Never ever could anyone think that life in hostel could be so fine with all the outings arranged!!! It only happens in Gurukul.
