Iridescence- THE PALLETTE OF LIFE

“Iridiscence”, as the name suggests means bright colours seemed apt for an Art Exhibition showcasing artistic ventures of the students, titled ”Iridescence- THE PALLETTE OF LIFE”, was organised by on the 10th and 11th Dec, 2011, at Balgandharva Kaladalan, Pune, under the able guidance of the art faculty Mrs. Nanda Kathale and Mrs. Chetna Thakre.

The colours of the rainbow came alive as this exhibition was a unique gift of opportunity for the students to disrobe the figments of their imagination in forms of admirable visual reflections before art lovers and lovers of aesthetics.

It was inaugurated by an eminent personality, a thinker and philosopher, Honourable Adv. Shri Bhaskarrao E. Awhad, President, MAEER, and the creator duo of CHINTOO, the comic strip character of the leading Marathi news paper, Sakal, Shri. Charuhas Pandit and Shri Prabhakar Wadekar. The inauguration was also graced by Dr. Sunil Karad, Executive Director, Vishwashanti Gurukul, and Shri. Anand Deodhar, Director, and Head of school, Shri. Venu Gopal, Principal, secondary and Mrs. Rama Shinde, Principal, PYP.

 The Chief Guest and Guests of Honour were very impressed by the display of art work at the exhibition.

The whole crowd of children was thrilled and cheered as “CHINTOO” came to life with a brush in his hands when Shri Charuhas Pandit put his strokes on paper!!

The guests went around the exhibition while interacting with the budding artists of Vishwashanti Gurukul. The students explained their ideas and thoughts behind the making of the paintings which was highly appreciated by all, and the guests were highly impressed by the students work and understanding.

There were about 200 paintings and posters on display made by the students of KG to 12th grade. There was a great variety of mediums used to create objects of beauty. There were water colour paintings, acrylics paintings on canvas, oil paintings on canvas, Warli paintings done on cowdung surface, glass painting and beautiful collages, made with coloured saw dust.

The exhibition showcased a variety of subjects taught in art curriculum, like memory drawing, still-life, hatchings, landscapes, design compositions etc.

 There were candles made of gel and beads wax for sale. The money generated through the sale of items will be used for charity.

The centre of attraction of the exhibition was the work of our grade 12 children, which showed great level of maturity. The research papers leading to studio pieces and the handling of the subject matter and material were of very high quality. Each student represented their personality through their paintings.

The visitors to the exhibition were highly impressed by the works of art of the students and the way it was displayed. Few people expressed that as it was an exhibition of school children, they would get to see some pictures of balloon- seller or children flying kites, but what they saw was a class apart.
